Readers are Leaders program of the Adult
Literacy Council, Shots Across Texas, Make a
Difference Day, building playground equipment
at the Boys and Girls Club, working at the Blue

Oscar Castillo has been the advisor for the
Rotaract Club of Texas A&M - Kingsville. The club
has become a
leadership source for university students,
including a large number of graduate students.
The club has participated in community
beautification projects, as
well as assisting new foreign students in
obtaining furniture, and becoming oriented to life
in the United States.
Rotary is commited to the development of future
leaders. The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
program, adopted in 1971 aims to:
>Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for
youth.
>Provide an effective training experience for
selected youth and potential leaders.
>Encourage leadership of youth by youth.
>Publicly recognize young people who
are rendering service to their
communities.
Each year our club sponsors two local students
to attend RYLA.
Each year, our club contributes a $1,000
scholarship to Texas A&M-Kingsville. The
university, in turn, matches the scholarship,
meaning that the lucky recipient receives $2,000.
The four-way speech contest is an opportunity
for high school students to demonstrate their
public speaking skills and educate Rotarians on
what the four
way test means to non-Rotarians.
Contestants compete at the club, area, and
district levels. Scholarships are awarded to the
top finishers at the district convention each April.
